Social worker to appear on new season of The Apprentice
Qualified social worker, Steven Ugoalah, 25, has been unveiled as one the contestants on the new BBC series of The Apprentice.
Canadian Steven lives in London, running his own social work consultancy as well as managing a property portfolio but his background saw him spend a year travelling the Arctic for a community development social work project with remote Inuit communities.
After graduating in 2006 from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Social Work degree, Steven spent over a year doing social work with the Inuit people in the northern Canadian territory of Nunavut.
Nunavut is one of the coldest places on the planet, and temperatures regularly dip below -45 Celsius. Nunavut is the largest territory in Canada (787,155 sq mi – which is larger than Mexico). However, the population is only 31,906, and most communities are made up of just a few hundred people.
Steven’s role in Nunavut was to travel throughout the territory to promote community development and self-reliance amongst the Inuit people. This work included writing proposals to receive funding grants from the government as well as holding regular focus groups with the Inuit people to understand how their needs could be met.
Steven will compete with 15 other hopefuls to win the £250,000 prize and the opportunity to work with Lord Sugar when The Apprentice returns to tv screens on Tuesday, October 14.
