Work starts on £20M complex for older people in Manchester

Work has begun on a £20m complex to provide 135 homes for older people in Wythenshawe, south of Manchester.

Set to open in February 2016, Village 135 is an Extra Care Scheme which will be a mix of 66 apartments for affordable rent, 39 flats for shared ownership and 30 apartments for outright sale.

The homes will have an on-site 24-hour care team so residents can live independent lives in their two-bedroom apartments with access to suitable care.

The development will have landscaped sensory gardens and the homes have been designed to meet full mobility and access.

Eddy Newman, Chairman of Wythenshawe Community Housing Group, said: “This new facility will also provide job opportunities for local people, both in the construction phase of the development, and when it is up and running.

“We also hope to work closely with The Manchester College in Wythenshawe to provide training and job opportunities in health and social care, catering and hair and beauty as part of the Community facilities on offer in the communal hub of the scheme.”
