ADASS welcomes new vice president with 30 years of social care experience
David Pearson of Nottinghamshire County Council has been elected as the new vice-president of the Association for Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS.)
In his new role he will become president of the Association’s annual general meeting in 2014.
His appointment has been welcomed by ADASS president Sandie Keene, who said: “My heartfelt congratulations to David on his election. I look forward to working with him closely, both as president and, after April next year, immediate past president, as we confront some of the most difficult but stimulating challenges that have been faced by social care services so far this century.”
Mr Pearson has worked in social care for over 30 years and has been a director for Nottinghamshire County Council since 2005.
Starting his career as a social worker, Mr Pearson has gone on to work in integrated care and health services as well as social care.
Thanking Nottinghamshire County Council’s support throughout his appointment, Mr Pearson said: “Being vice president provides a fantastic opportunity to work with you as we collectively seek to influence and shape the future of adult social care and provide support to each other in our roles as leaders of the sector.
“For those of you who know me, I hope you recognise the passion and dedication I have for high quality, personalised and effective social care services which reflect the needs and aspirations of service users and carers.”
Mr Pearson is currently chair of the East Midlands ADASS branch and represents ADASS on the National Steering Group for developing the social care market.
He said: “As an experienced director, I believe Nottinghamshire County Council has derived enormous benefit from the work of ADASS in providing leadership and innovation in the sector with social care partners and central government.
“We all face major challenges and have increasingly diverse responsibilities. The opportunity for peer support is a vital part of our commitment to each other.”
