Southport’s Eagle’s Rest care home closes

A SOUTHPORT elderly people’s home has been closed by its owners after months of controversy. The Eagles Rest Care Home in Church Street was shut down by its owners last week.
Sefton Council immediately began moving their residents from the home.

Last October, the Care and Quality Commission issued a formal warning to the care home, telling the owners to improve the standard of care being offered. The warning followed an unannounced visit to the home in September.

In May, Sefton decided to stop funding any more residential placements at the home. At the time their spokesman said: “We are not currently funding any new residential placements at this home while some issues and processes are addressed in conjunction with the Care Quality Commission (CQC)Š andŠ the home’s management.”

In response, Heather Jackson, who managed the home, told the Visiter that she put her residents ahead of bureaucracy and box ticking.

Earlier this year JHP Apprenticeships confirmed they had ended their relationship with the home.

Following last week’s closure, a council spokesman said: “”We were informed by the owners of the care home of their decision to close the business.Š To ensure the continued safety and welfare of all eight residents at the home, plans were quickly put in place to move them with as little disruption as possible.ŠWorking closely with the CQC, all residents at the home have now been moved to alternative accommodation.”
