St Mary’s nurses home fire at Coleshill treated as arson

A fire at a former nurses home is being treated as arson. The “severe” fire was started at the Father Hudson’s Society home in Coleshill, Warwickshire, on Sunday evening.

Police said the disused building, the St Mary’s former nurses home, had been “extensively damaged” and some parts deemed to be unsafe.

St Mary’s has been unoccupied, fenced and boarded up for some time, the society said.

Father Hudson’s Society is the social care agency of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham and has its headquarters in Coleshill.

During the fire residents were asked to keep windows closed due to heavy smoke and road closures were put in place until early Monday morning.
