Meeting over Leeds care home closures

Campaigners against the closure of care homes in Leeds will attend a public meeting tonight. Leeds City Council want to close care homes including Primrose Hill to help make fifty five million pounds of cuts.

The campaigners – many of whom are elderly residents and their families – are fighting to save six care homes – but tonight’s session – at the Boston Spa Parish Council meeting – will focus on Primrose Hill Care Home.

Leeds City Council Adult Social Services will present their case to close the home, but protestors will also have the chance to ask questions.

Last week around 70 people, including residents, their relatives and local councillors, turned out at Burley Willows in Leeds, which is also earmarked for closure. Fears have been mounting about the future care of residents there. Relatives say people with Alzheimer’s will not be able to cope with change if they are moved.
