Courses for carers being held at West Suffolk College
West Suffolk College is running a series of courses for people caring for adults either at home or within a residential setting.
Training in Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults (SOVA) is for carers and managers working within a residential care home.
The training has been commissioned by Suffolk County Council Adult and Community Services and provides an opportunity for the care workforce to be updated on adult safeguarding requirements.
The training for carers is for three and half hours and includes recognising signs and indicators of abuse and understanding the importance of reporting risk of harm.
The training for managers and senior/team leaders includes understanding their role and responsibilities in relation to the protection of vulnerable adults.
The training is funded by Suffolk County Council for all care homes within Suffolk.
As well as meeting the Care Quality Commission requirements, an additional benefit of this training is that it will provide valuable evidence for the health and social care diploma, for those already working towards the diploma or those intending to.
‘Essential Care – The Care that really Matters’ is a programme which focuses on the fundamental care of adults in a home environment or a residential setting.
This is the latest addition to the College’s care learning portfolio and is for domiciliary carers as well people working in a residential care home.
The three sessions cover infection control and continence, skin, ear and eye care, nutrition and mouth care.
These sessions aim to provide the knowledge and skills needed to deliver quality, fundamental care to adults.
The course has been written, and will be delivered, by registered nurses with a passion for essential care.
The training is fully funded for residents of the UK or EU member states who are over 19-years-old and attend all three sessions.
There are various course dates available at West Suffolk College for both essential care and adult safeguarding courses and the training can also be delivered by the college at workplace premises.
Care workers within both the social care, and the independent sector, would benefit from these courses.
