Social care in the Royal Borough criticised
THE Royal Borough of Windor’s children’s social services have been criticised in an independent report.
The council invited the Local Government Association (LGA) and the Children’s Improvement Board (CIB) to conduct a three-day ‘safeguarding practice challenge’ into their children’s social services work.
The three-day challenge ran from January 22-24 and found issues with the pace of delivering services and staff understanding of a child’s journey through the protection system.
The findings were discussed at a Royal Borough Children’s Services Overview And Scrutiny Panel meeting, held at Maidenhead Town Hall, in St Ives Road, on Monday.
Speaking at the meeting, Angela Wellings, interim strategic director of children’s services, said: “Good pockets of social work has been identified, but it is not systemic.”
A framework for improvement in response to the findings has been drafted by the Royal Borough.
Cllr James Evans, panel chairman, praised the council for subjecting itself to the challenge and so preparing itself for future Ofsted inspections.
