Care UK and MedicX Healthfund to open new £8.3m care home in Newbury
Healthcare property investment fund, MedicX Healthfund, is funding the construction of a £8.3m care home in Newbury, Berkshire.
Once the 80 bed care home is completed, a 30 year lease will be given to Care UK, a leading independent provider of health and social care services.
The building is set within a 1.6 acre site at Maple Crescent and will include a hairdressing salon, café, cinema room and 24 car parking spaces as well as a secure sensory garden.
Richard Pearman, development director of Care UK, said: “This new home has been specifically designed to deliver the flexible and high quality care that Care UK is renowned for and when complete will ensure local people have access to great quality care on their doorsteps. Not only will the new home bring an increase in the number of care places available, it will also complement the excellent care already provided by Care UK’s Birchwood home, also in Newbury.”
Castleoak, the specialist care development, design and build group, has been appointed as the main contractor. Work is due to start on site at the end of January and construction is anticipated to take 12 months.
Melville Knight, Castleoak Group chief executive, said: “Market demand is for high quality, purpose-built care homes and by combining the investment from MedicX Healthfund, with our experience in care home development and that of a leading operator, we look forward to delivering a first class healthcare environment.”
This is the second partnership between MedicX and Care UK, and Tim Meggitt, chief operating officer for MedicX, said: “MedicX is focussed on becoming the partner of choice for best-in-class healthcare operators such as Care UK.”
