New service for people with Asperger’s Syndrome in Hertfordshire
A service to help people with Asperger’s Syndrome is due to be launched in Hertfordshire. The facility, which will see a new team of dedicated staff helping people with the mild form of autism, will be opened in April.
The initiative will open to people 16 years and over and is being run by Hertfordshire County Council with Hertfordshire NHS Foundation Trust.
Colette Wyatt-Lowe, Hertfordshire County Council cabinet member for health and adult care, said: “This is a very exciting development for Hertfordshire residents.
“The consistent message from people with Asperger’s syndrome and their families is that they do not ‘fit’ into either learning disability or mental health services, and they want to be supported in very different ways.
“While we appreciate we have much work to do, it is our aspiration that this social care team, supported by our local mental health trust, will be able to provide what people want and need.”
