Stoke-on-Trent: Care firm recruits 20 employees to deliver home help
AN EXPANDING care service company has launched a recruitment drive after creating 20 new jobs. Carewatch, which offers home help for the elderly and disabled, is looking to offer positions to people currently out of work.
It has joined forces with Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s Stoke Adult Social Care Employment and Skills (SACCES) team to offer paid training places.
Staff perform tasks such as shopping and cleaning, as well as personal care including medication management and bathing service users.
Tina Roche, business development manager for Carewatch, said there was a real shortage of care workers in the city.
She added: “The care industry is desperately in need of more trained workers.
“To deliver high-quality home care, it takes a special kind of person.
“Some people find the prospect of performing personal care for someone quite daunting, but we offer three months paid training before we ask our staff to go and get real-world experience.
“We are really proud to be helping unemployed people in Stoke-on-Trent to break into this industry.”
Carewatch will be staging a series of open days for people interested in the positions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Tina added: “We will actually recruit people into the training programme on the day if they’re keen and we think they are suitable.
“The pay is pretty good and the work can be very rewarding.
“Our reputation has been built on the people we train to provide support for our service users.
“We’re looking for spirit, passion and desire to put our customers at the heart of everything we do.”
Carewatch has been helping people to remain independent in their home for nearly 20 years.
Tracy Kirton, from SASCES, said: “We believe working in care is a specialist career that can sometimes go unnoticed.
“Excellent care requires not only the right skills but the right personality, dedication and compassion.
“By working closely with employers, SASCES is not only delivering Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s mandate of a working city, but ensuring those working in the care sector want to deliver only the highest standards of care to those who need support.”
