Staffordshire County Council social care reform plans backed

Badly-performing care providers could be publicly-named under plans being backed by Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet.

Council leaders are also calling for carers to be given more training to help boost their status and career prospects.

The move comes amid national criticism of social workers and recruitment problems in the sector.

The plans will be discussed by the full council on 10 September.

The cabinet said it wanted the proposals, detailed in a document called A Revolution In Care Quality, to see Staffordshire leading the way in transforming the sector.

Matthew Ellis, cabinet member for adult care, said: “We are not waiting for national government to do this, or to send up a flare to say we need to change, but are taking action ourselves.”

Members of the public also have until 16 September to comment on the plans.
