London Safeguarding Children Awards are now open for entries

A prestigious awards scheme which aims to highlight exemplary child protection work in London is now open for entries.

The London Safeguarding Children Awards 2012 have been launched today (Monday April 16). They aim to showcase and celebrate examples of outstanding work by child protection services across London, to promote shared learning among colleagues and agencies across the capital.

Local authorities, health workers and the police are encouraged to nominate examples of their work, including projects with other agencies and charities. The closing date for entries is Friday 29 June, 2012.

Organised by the London Safeguarding Children Board, and supported by SCIE (Social Care Institute for Excellence), this is the second year of the awards.

An expert judging panel of national child protection specialists will evaluate the entries.  There is a separate prize for the most promising example of emerging good practice. The winners will be announced and presented with their awards at the London Safeguarding Children Board’s annual conference on December 10, 2012.

Chair of the London Safeguarding Children Board, Cheryl Coppell said: “These awards provide an excellent opportunity for us to highlight some of the outstanding practice that is taking place across London’s child protection teams every day.

“Protecting children from abuse and neglect is a complex and challenging area of work. These awards aim to recognise the hard work and determination of frontline professionals who make a real difference to the lives of the most vulnerable young people in London.”
