Care work on offer to Wiltshire’s youth
As new statistics published show that the number of young people out of work is at an all-time high, specialist care provider Choice Care Group has announced that it has a number of opportunities suitable for this age group in Wiltshire.
Figures from the Office for National Statistics reveal that 3,370 people aged 16 to 24 living in Wiltshire are currently claiming Jobseekers Allowance, with Swindon accounting for almost half of these with 1,460 claimants. The figures are an increase on those for the same period the previous year.
Choice Care Group, which provides specialist care to individuals with learning disabilities, mental health disorders and complex emotional and behavioural needs, is currently recruiting social care workers for its homes in Swindon, Royal Wootton Bassett and Highworth, with the roles being suitable for people over the age of 18.
Chief executive Edwina Johnston said: “As these figures show, young people in Wiltshire are still finding it extremely difficult to find work, but that doesn’t mean that opportunities are not out there.
“We are currently recruiting social care workers at our properties across the county.
“These roles are suitable for all ages, including the 18 to 24 age group.
“Individuals working for us will have the chance to make a real difference to other people’s lives in what will be an extremely rewarding role. They will also have the opportunity to progress their careers through initiatives such as our Foundation Management Development Programme, which enables the senior employees to move up to management positions.”
She also assures young people that a lack of qualifications is not a stumbling block to employment in the industry.
“There’s a common misconception that you need qualifications and experience to work in the care sector, which may put some people off from applying.
“However, this is not the case at all. At Choice, we are able to provide full training and support, including training all staff to become qualified social care workers by obtaining a diploma in health and social care.
“Members of our senior management team started their careers as social care workers, demonstrating that there is genuine potential for personal growth and development for those working for us.
“All that we require from our new staff is a genuine interest in working with people with a learning disability or mental health disorder, as well as open-mindedness and a real willingness to learn more.”
