Lincolnshire day care centres to remain open

Day centres used by hundreds of vulnerable people in Lincolnshire have been saved from closure due to public opposition.

The 31 day care centres are used by about 1,000 disabled and elderly people.

Lincolnshire County Council said it received opposition to its proposals from more than 1,000 people when it held a public consultation.

The authority said it would work with the centres to keep them open.

New proposals will go before the council’s executive in March.

Terry Hawkins, interim assistant director for adult social care, said: “People are saying they want to keep these centres open, so we want to do our best to support them.”

Mr Hawkins said the council had received requests from care staff who were interested in running the centres.

He said the council would provide support for them and other interested groups.

The council said it expected the process to take about two years to complete, during which time the centres would remain open.
