Munro takes up key strategic role at College of Social Work
The College of Social Work (TCSW) has today announced that Professor Eileen Munro CBE is to work with the recently launched organisation in the role of Transitional Chair for the College’s Children’s Faculty.
Eileen Munro, who is Professor of Social Policy at the London School of Economics (LSE) and an expert in child protection, will take up the position in March for a period of 12 months.
Professor Munro, whose wide ranging review into frontline child protection practice recommended an improvement in the expertise, status, and continuing professional development of social workers, will have an important role in determining The College’s strategic direction and policy development in the area of children’s social work.
Professor Corinne May-Chahal, Interim Co-Chair of TCSW, said: “We are extremely pleased that Professor Munro is taking up the role of Transitional Chair for our Children’s Faculty at this formative time for The College.
“The Munro Review recommended wide-ranging changes to the provision of child social care that cut across Government, local agencies and social work.
“We look forward to working with Professor Munro to help put in place the reforms needed to provide high quality child protection that all professionals working in this challenging area want to see.”
Professor Munro said: “I am delighted to take up this role. The College will play a crucial role in enabling social workers to take control of our own standards of excellence, to enhance our level of expertise in helping children and families, and in supporting those on the front line to exercise their professional judgement to safeguard children”.
