Change career to social work call by three councils

Three councils are aiming to recruit experienced professionals and people considering a change of career to train as social workers.

Hertfordshire, Central Bedfordshire and Luton are working with the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC) on a scheme combining practice and study.

Twenty successful applicants will each receive a minimum of £22,000 support for the 18-month training programme.

Applications must arrive before a 29 August deadline.

Richard Roberts, heading children’s services in Hertfordshire, said: “This training programme will give those looking for a change of career the opportunity to be paid while they study to become social workers, providing valuable experience with considerably more to live on than a standard bursary.”
