Gloucestershire job fair for people interested in career in care

A JOB fair is being held in Yate in a bid to find more carers. South Gloucestershire Council, in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, is hosting the event for people interested in a career in care.

It takes place at Yate Library on Wednesday, March 30 (10am-4pm) when a wide variety of organisations will be offering numerous full and part-time vacancies. Confirmed attendees include Jobcentre Plus, SeeAbility, Care Ambassadors, McKinnon’s, Care UK, Cardell House, Kenver, Elite Nursing, Wayside, The Grove, Seetec, City of Bristol College and Filton College.

The organisations will carry out initial screening or basic interviews and provide support to fill out application forms and write CVs.

In addition, the council’s community learning service will be on hand to promote adult numeracy and literacy courses.

Cllr Matthew Riddle, executive member for community care and housing, said the Yate job fair and a similar one in Kingswood on March 31 would be useful for anyone interested in the care industry.

“The council is putting an extra £2.7million into social care over the next financial year which itself will generate many job opportunities in the sector, so if you are interested in a career in care, then it is essential that you come down to one of our two job fairs held later this month,” he said.

“A career in care can be very rewarding and enjoyable so the council is making it easy for local residents to see what’s on offer by providing a one-stop-shop of vacancies, advice and training all under the same roof.”
