Nottingham dementia unit wins national care accolade
A hospital dementia unit at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham has been formally recognised for its work.
The unit was awarded the NHS National Health and Social Care award, the Nottingham Post reported.
It also came runner-up in the “putting the public and patient first” category.
The award was based on the unit having a new training programme, having more staff trained in mental health, and for installing clearer signage, making it easier for patients.
Simon Hammond, clinical nurse specialist in dementia care, told the newspaper: “I am proud to be part of this exciting new venture improving standards of care for people with dementia in the acute care setting.”
“It is bridging the gap between medical and mental health care,” he added.
The unit was developed by Notts Healthcare – the mental health trust for the city and county.
