Mansion House Nursing Home plan would create 20 new jobs in Drax
TWENTY new jobs could be created in the Selby area if plans to expand a care home are approved. The Mansion House Nursing Home in Main Road, Drax, intends to extend its premises to provide a new unit for dementia patients.
The Mansion House, which lies opposite the Church of St Peter and St Paul and occupies the church’s former vicarage, currently has 29 beds. The extension would add a further 16 bedrooms.
Owners Roche Healthcare told planners the rooms would be designed to modern standards each with an en-suite bathroom and the unit would be used solely for dementia patients.
The company expects to employ 20 more staff to operate the extension. It currently needs an average of nine staff per shift and intends to increase this to 17 staff.
The plans are for a two-storey extension with lift access, a nursing station, residents’ lounge and sensory room on the ground floor. The plans also include four additional parking spaces to the existing 24-space car park and two bicycle parking spaces.
The existing building includes two single-storey extensions to the original vicarage, one to the side and one to the back. Architects Kilmartin Plowman and Partners submitted the planning application on behalf of Roche Healthcare.
The proposals are expected to be discussed at a planning committee meeting next month.
