No inquest on Northampton ‘freeze’ death pair

No inquests are to be held into the deaths of a couple found in their freezing home in Northamptonshire.

Jean Randall, 79, and husband Derrick, 76, were found by police in their home in Northampton on 7 January.

Mrs Anne Pember, Her Majesty’s Coroner for Northamptonshire, after an inquiry, believes they died of natural causes.

Mr Randall’s cause of death is given as pneumonia and choking due to lung cancer. Mrs Randall died from a heart attack and a disease of the arteries.

‘Review taking place’

Her Majesty’s Coroners Office said in a statement: “No inquest will take place, the deaths are of a result of natural causes and there are no other suspicious circumstances present.”

A Safeguarding Adults Board review will take place in their deaths.

The couple were found dead at their home in Birch Barn Way after they failed to answer the door to a nurse who had come to give Mrs Randall an injection.

Police said the couple had been seen by a GP shortly before they died.

A Safeguarding Adults Board review panel is independent and usually made up of social services, health officials and the police, as well as any other organisations involved in the case.
