Work underway for £3.5m Lincolnshire care complex

WORK on a £6 million social care housing development for elderly people with long-term disabilities got underway on Monday.

Being built on the site of the former Broadfield House in Broadfield Lane, the extra care complex will be made up of 40 one and two bedroom self-contained flats.

There will be a host of communal facilities ranging from a hair and beauty salon to a restaurant, and care will be provided on site day and night.

Lincolnshire County Council executive councillor for adult social care, Graham Marsh, told the Target: “This is excellent news for our elderly population who have long term conditions.

“This will fill a gap in the range of care facilities available for older people and provide high quality homes with services that enable choice, delight and dignity for older people at a price they can afford.

“The new housing scheme gives people a home of their own where a wide range of care and support services are provided on site.

“Tenants can enjoy greater privacy and independence, couples can stay together and social and leisure opportunities can be enjoyed at residents convenience.”

Thirty of the flats will be available for rent, eight for shared ownership and two for outright sale and will be in keeping with private houses.

The scheme is a joint project between the county council, Boston Mayflower, Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust, Supporting People and Boston Borough Council.
