Lancashire sees specialist dementia care home open
A care home for people suffering from dementia has been opened in Darwen, Lancashire, staffed with neurological illness specialists.
Birch Hall Care Centre, also known as Willow House, provides 11 private bedrooms and staff at the centre have been trained in accordance with research carried out by the University of Stirling, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.Dementia-friendly signage is also in place to allow those with diseases such as Alzheimer’s to find their way around on their own more easily and the decor has been developed to assist those with sensory impairment.
Gill Entwistle, home manager, said: “Increasingly there is a need for quality dementia care in the area and Willow House has been specifically adapted to meet the needs of people with dementia related illness.”
The government recently announced a £30,000 grant from the King’s Fund’s Enhancing the Healing Environment programme for ten NHS trusts across England to help them deal with dementia patients.
