Social work course delayed at University of Cumbria

THE University of Cumbria has postponed the launch of a new degree course in social work because it has not received accreditation.

The MA course was to have started at the university’s Fusehill Street campus in Carlisle next January. It will be delayed, probably for a year, because the General Social Care Council has rejected the proposed syllabus.

It says that information provided by the university was “unclear or incomplete”.

A university spokeswoman said no students had been enrolled on the course, so none would be affected.

She said: “The university is continuing to work on this course proposal to meet the requirements of the General Social Care Council.”

The MA in social care is a two-year, full-time course designed to turn out qualified social workers.
