Yorkshire Care Boss Conned Stroke Victim To Buy Lingerie

A SHELTERED housing boss has admitted conning a disabled resident out of thousands of pounds.

Karen Dawson, 47, yesterday switched her plea to guilty midway through her trial for six offences of abusing her position to commit fraud.

In one offence she used John Lill’s bank card to spend more than £100 on lingerie. But Dawson, manager at St Oswald’s Court sheltered housing complex, in Hemsworth, Pontefract, still denies six further fraud charges that involve much larger sums of money.

One includes getting Mr Lill to change his will to make her the sole benefactor of his estate.

The jury at Leeds Crown Court is expected to retire today to consider its verdict on the outstanding charges, which also include allegations she was the recipient of bank withdrawls of £10,000, £2,000 and cash machine withdrawals totalling £3,300.

Yesterday Dawson switched her pleas to guilty for offences which involved her using his bank card at Castleford Freeport for a £105 spending spree at Camille Lingerie.

The court has heard claims that Dawson, of Green Lane, Cutsyke, Castleford, persuaded the 78-year-old stroke victim to change his will and used his bank card.
