Cheadle Council To Consult As Care Homes Prepare For Closure

Two council care homes for elderly residents are to be closed within the next four months. Kniveden Hall, in Leek, and Lightwood, in Cheadle, are closing as part of the county council’s Changing Lives programme.

Homes for people with disabilities, including Greenfields House and Springhill Hostel, in Leek, are also to close. It will leave the Moorlands without any council-run care facilities.

Kniveden is to close its doors on March 31, and Lightwood shuts in June.

Campaigners have fought a long-running battle to keep the homes open.

A county council spokesman said: “Kniveden has a date of March 31, but the other two do not have dates, and we will continue to work with service users, families and staff to identify how their needs will best be met.”

The county council is drawing up plans to provide extra care facilities on the site of both Kniveden and Lightwood.
