Council Row Over Pensioners 30 Carers In A Year

A DISABLED pensioner who had 30 carers in a year says she’s still suffering at the hands of unreliable care workers.

Margaret Snowden, of Priory Wood Way, Huntington, told The Press in December last year that since City of York Council changed to a new care contract on December 4 2006, she has had 30 different carers.

Now two months on Mrs Snowden, a former nurse, who suffers from osteoporosis and has a heart condition, said carers are still failing her and she hasn’t had her bedding changed for a month.

89-year-old Mrs Snowden said carers are still failing to show up to feed and clothe her at the start of the day and what’s more the cost of her care has been put up twice within the space of a month.

Mrs Snowden, who pays City of York Council for her care, said carers from York Helpers had failed to show up at her home time and again.

She said: “Things are no better than they were before Christmas and I am still suffering.

“It’s not just me either – I know of many other people my age in York who have the same problems, but I am the only bone who can speak out.”
