UK’s First Green Care Home Refusal

Plans for the first eco-friendly care home in England have been turned down by East Devon District Council. The council decided on Friday to refuse permission for the project at Douglas Avenue, Exmouth.

The scheme involved a German-designed building which could have been constructed in two weeks and accommodated residents in around three months.

The application for the pre-fabricated, 22-room building came from Wendy Marsh, a former nurse and owner of the Brandon House care home in Douglas Avenue.

She said the project for a building on parking spaces was aimed at giving residents larger rooms, with sea views and a better quality of life.

She added that few residents who required 24-hour care continued to drive.

But planners rejected the proposal saying parking was an issue at the site and the building would be out of character with the area.
