Chippenham : Ex-Nursery School Boss Faces 45 Sex Charges
The former general manager of a village nursery school has been charged with more than 40 child sex offences.
Simon Burrows, of Lacock Gardens, Hilperton, Trowbridge, who was originally placed in custody in June after being accused of three counts of sexual activity with a child, appeared at Chippenham Magistrates’ Court again yesterday.
Additional charges came about in September after parents were asked by police in June to consider whether their children had been in contact with Burrows.
Burrows, 44, helped set up Bumble Bees Nursery in Steeple Ashton, and his wife Kyrstie managed the day-to-day running of the business. She is not being investigated by police.
On September 28 he was charged with 21 extra offences, 16 counts of touching a girl under 13, two counts of touching a boy under 13 and one count each of causing a child under 13 to watch a sex act, taking/making indecent photos and exposure.
The offences are alleged to have taken place between January 2003 and June 2007.
advertisementOn Wednesday, police charged him with another 21 offences.
These included 14 charges of making indecent photos, one of possessing indecent photos and movies, five of voyeurism and one of digital penetration of a child under 13.
Burrows did not enter a plea, when he appeared to face the combined total of 42 charges.
Bumble Bees nursery, which is located in the former Steeple Ashton School, above the Village Shop, opened in December 2005.
It caters for children aged from three months to five-years-old and also runs after-school, breakfast and holiday clubs for children up to 12 years of age.
After Burrows was initially charged with three counts of sexual activity with a child in June, around 40 parents, carers and headteachers of local schools were called to a meeting with police at West Ashton Primary School.
Burrows will appear at Swindon Crown Court via video link from prison on Thursday.
