Hale Private Care Home Gets Go Ahead
An American based company has had its plans for an 80 bedroom assisted living’ care home in Hale approved by Trafford’s planning committee.
Sunrise Senior Living scheme involves building a three-storey development at the site of the former Oaklands Court Residential Home, on Shay Lane, in Hale.
The previous 1960s built facility, located on 1.7 acres of land, closed it doors for the last time in July last year despite the objections of many users and their families.
Trafford Council said last year that it would have had to spend £500,000 to bring the 44-bed care home up to standard.
To date the council has not made public how much they are to receive for the land – despite a Freedom of Information request from the Messenger earlier this year – and has insisted this is commercially sensitive’ information.
Mr Donnini, Sunrise’s regional development director, speaking at the planning meeting, said: “We are addressing a local need for high quality care and are replacing an out date facility.
“Our care strategy is to create a homely environment. Forty per cent of the space in our communal homes is communal.”
He added that most of the residents are expected to come from within a five-mile radius of the home.
