Plymouth Carer Rewarded For Her Compassionate Work
A plymouth carer has been presented with an award in recognition of her outstanding work with older people.
Maggie Carter, from the Manor Court care home, won the Anchor Trust’s Customer Service Award for the southern region after being nominated by two sisters whose parents she looked after. She is now eligible for a national award.
Mrs Carter, 59, said: “I’ve never won anything like this before. I’m thrilled.”
She was nominated for the title by Vanessa Billing and Rosamund Davies, who put her name forward in gratitude for the care she showed their parents.
Their mother still lives at the Blandford Road home, although their father died two years ago.
Miss Billing said: “She always finds time to have a word, share a smile and talk with them about things other than care matters. She helped our parents feel more at home.
“When our mother’s health deteriorated she gave us her mobile phone number so we could always contact her if we wanted to.
“She’s a star.”
Mrs Carter, from Greenbank, said she was overwhelmed by the honour.
“It’s so humbling when relatives of the people you look after nominate you for an award this important,” she said.
“It makes you feel the job is even more worthwhile.
“I love my job, and I go home every day happy, as I’ve tried to make a big difference in the lives of the older people I care for.”
There were 287 nominations in the three regional finals of Anchor’s Care Services Awards. Mrs Carter will attend the national finals in Warwickshire later this month with other regional winners.
