Shorter Waiting Times For People Needing Social Care

Ambitious proposals that will cut the length of time it takes for people to receive social care are being discussed by Devon County Council. It would mean that people with relatively simple care requirements will get what services they need very quickly, significantly reducing current waiting times.

And vulnerable people with more complex needs will have the most skilled and expensive resources directed to them more quickly. The proposals are part of an overall modernisation programme aimed at giving people better services, and better choice, when they need social care support.

However the proposals, which rely on more efficient use of resources, Information Technology and streamlined working practices, would require overhaul of the Council’s current Care Management System. They would also reduce back office costs, enabling additional investment in frontline services.

The Council’s Executive is due to consider a report which if agreed will begin a three month consultation process with staff and Unions, starting on the 12 September, about how reorganisation would take shape.
