Elderly Are Taken Out Of Care Home After Damning Report

Ten residents from the Haven Nursing Home, Rastrick, are now being cared for elsewhere following its closure. After damning reports from the Commission for Social Care Inspectorate and adverse publicity, the owners shut the premises ahead of a tribunal hearing over its future.

The Haven was one of three homes run by Flowertouch Ltd, of Manchester. The others are Carr Green Nursing Home, also in Rastrick, and Wellington Court, Lindley, Huddersfield. Carr Green has also been criticised by inspectors but home manager Sandra Speight said concerns raised following a random visit in October had been addressed.

“The jobs are getting done as quickly as possible,” she said. “We are doing further imp-rovements as we go along.” She said two residents of the Haven were now at Carr Green and the remaining eight had been transferred to other care homes.

The latest surprise visit from the inspectorate was made because of earlier concerns. Evidence of improvements in care plans was found but medication records at the home remained unsatisfactory.

Mrs Speight said recent professional feedback on paperwork had not caused further concern.

Inspectors are expected to make an announced visit to the home shortly.
