Red Cross Launch Online Shop For Independent Living Products

The British Red Cross has launched a new online shop enabling medical professionals and the public to choose from an extensive range of Independent Living products and gadgets to help older and disabled people maintain their independence.

Over 400 items are now available online for the first time at www.redcross.org.uk/shop, including products to facilitate life in the home, help people get out and about, and bedroom, bathroom and toileting products. Examples include chair raisers, rise and recline chairs, walking sticks, crutches, scooters and dressing aids. These join the Christmas gifts and cards, first aid products and educational publications also available from the online shop.

The online facility provides a wider range of innovative products than the Independent Living catalogue and allows product ranges to be regularly updated and specially priced products included. Users will also benefit from the online search feature that facilitates looking for specific items.

Frank Jenkins, operations manager for Independent Living at the British Red Cross, comments; “Everyone will benefit from the new online facility, from medical professionals including occupational therapists and physiotherapists who make recommendations to their clients, to the increasing number of ‘silver surfers’ on the net. At the same time, selling online is an important development for the British Red Cross, to increase the sales and profits that fund our work.”

Frank continues, “We have a larger range of merchandise than most Independent Living retailers, including small, useful products that are difficult to obtain on the high street. We have a knowledgeable and qualified team with over 12 years experience in the sector. The online shop is a welcome addition to our catalogue and shops in Leicester and Goodmayes.

All money raised through the shop will fund the essential lifesaving work of the British Red Cross in the UK and around the world, which this year has included relief efforts for the Middle East Crisis, the Indonesian earthquake and ongoing HIV and AIDS work in Africa.
