Rethink Responds To Reform Report On Community Mental Health Care

Mental health charity Rethink has responded to the think tank ‘Reform’s’ report on mental health care; ‘Mental health services in the NHS: using reform incentives.’ Rethink’s director of public affairs Paul Corry said: “Rethink welcomes this report which shows that people experiencing a mental illness encounter poor community services, long waiting times and lack of access to specialist care.

“Putting mental health in the mainstream should be an absolute priority in NHS policy to ensure people experiencing mental health problems have access to effective services and support.

“This vision was echoed in Rethink’s research ‘Future Perfect’ where service users and carers envisioned new and accessible routes into care including innovative and comprehensive ‘community health centres’ where information and advice can be accessed in a crisis as well as new therapeutic environments as an alternative to inpatient care.”
