Residents Concerned Over Residential Care Home Plan

Worried families have launched a petition to stop a mental health care home next to a school. Residents from Temple Avenue, Dagenham, are objecting to the plans, which would see a five-bedroom residential care home placed just yards away from All Saints Comprehensive School. The petition has more than 100 signatures already, and organisers are hoping for many more before the deadline for logging objections passe.

One resident, who would be living next door to the proposed development said: “It is a terrible idea. It would be unfair on the people in the street, but also to the people who would actually be in the care home.

“These kinds of homes should be purpose-built, and they certainly should not be next to a school.

“It would only take one incident, one mistake, and then if a child was hurt or put in danger there would be uproar in the community, and people would start asking the same questions we are asking now – why are they putting the home here?”
