Hospital consultant admits trying to engage in sexual communication with a child
A hospital consultant has admitted attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
Dr Matthew Isles, 52, worked as an ear, nose and throat consultant at Royal Stoke University Hospital (pictured) and County Hospital, Stafford, until he was arrested on Monday, the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) said.
Staffordshire Police said Isles, from the Cheadle area, was arrested following an investigation by the Public Protection Unit and charged on Tuesday.
He entered a guilty plea to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child at North Staffordshire Justice Centre and was granted conditional bail, the force said.
He is due to appear for sentencing at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on April 11.
In a statement, UHNM said: “We are continuing to fully co-operate with the police in their investigation and cannot comment on an active criminal case.
“Patient and staff safety remains our top priority and we would encourage anyone who is concerned about the care they have received at our hospital to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01782 676450 or email [email protected].”
