Nurse charged with misconduct after death of teenage mental health patient

A nurse has been charged after a 19-year-old patient died at a mental health facility.

Sylvia Quaye-Mensah, 41, a nurse at Highbury Hospital in Nottingham, has been charged with misconduct in a public office in connection with the death of Louise Furlong, Nottinghamshire Police said.

Ms Furlong died on September 12 2022 following an incident which occurred the previous day.

Quaye-Mensah was on duty at the time of the incident, police confirmed.

The exact nature of the incident has not been confirmed.

Quaye-Mensah, of Ilkeston, Derbyshire, is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Detective Inspector Craig Hall, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We have been investigating this incident for some time and have now charged a suspect.

“Louise’s family have been informed of this development and remain in our thoughts.”
