Care home manager appears in court charged with neglecting 87-year-old resident
A care home manager has appeared before magistrates charged with neglecting an 87-year-old resident who later died in hospital.
Catalina Ferchiu indicated that she would plead not guilty to the charge, which alleges that she “ill-treated or wilfully neglected” Rachel Smith between January 31 and February 3 2018.
Ferchiu, originally from Romania, spoke only to give her personal details and confirm her not guilty plea during Wednesday’s hearing at Leamington Spa Magistrates’ Court.
The 54-year-old senior nurse manager, of Pool Close, Rugby, Warwickshire, was granted bail to appear for a further hearing at Warwick Crown Court on April 12.
The charge was brought after a Warwickshire Police inquiry into injuries suffered by Ms Smith while resident at Overslade Care Home in Overslade Lane, Rugby.
The pensioner was taken to hospital in February last year and died three weeks later.
