Man arrested over suspected murder of elderly relative at Essex care home

A man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of an elderly relative at a seaside care home in Essex, police said.

The man, 52, was arrested at the scene after a woman in her 70s suffered fatal injuries at the Langley Lodge Care Home on Imperial Avenue in Westcliff-on-Sea at about 10pm on Monday.

Essex Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the death of the woman, who was related to the suspect.

The Leigh-on-Sea man remains in custody for questioning.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted in due course.
