Slovakian teenager left newborn son with nurses saying he should be placed for adoption
A 17-year-old Slovakian travelled to England when near the end of her pregnancy then left her son in the care of nurses three days after giving birth, a family court judge has been told.
The teenager told social workers in Derby that she had become pregnant after being raped in Slovakia and wanted the boy to be placed for adoption, Judge Clifford Bellamy heard.
Judge Bellamy has ruled that the baby should be returned to Slovakia and says Slovakian judges should make decisions about his future.
He concluded that the child was a Slovak citizen whose relatives lived in Slovakia.
The judge has revealed detail of the case in a ruling following a hearing in a family court in Derby.
Judge Bellamy said the child could not be identified but said he had been placed into the care of Derby City Council after being born in March.
