‘Gun’ pointing from nursing home window may have been Zimmer frame

Police responding to a seven-year-old’s report of seeing someone pointing a gun from a window attended a nursing home and now believe what the child saw was a Zimmer frame.

The alarm was raised when the pupil in Walker, Newcastle, told a teacher about the weapon being aimed from a nearby property at around 11am on Thursday.

The teacher contacted police and local response officers attended the nursing home to check out the report.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “Officers attended and carried out a search of the property.

“It was established there were no firearms and the child may have confused the arm of a Zimmer frame for a firearm.

“The report was made in good faith but police are happy that no firearm was present.

“The school was not evacuated at any point during the incident.”
