Twins born to parents with learning difficulties must be adopted, judge rules

Twin babies whose parents both have learning difficulties and met while living in supported accommodation must be placed for adoption, a family court judge has ruled.

Both parents, who are in their 20s, said they could not care for the boys, Recorder Carly Henley heard.

The two children, who are approaching their first birthdays, had gone into council foster care within days of being born and the judge concluded that adoption was the best long-term option.

Detail of the case has emerged in a ruling by the judge following a private family court hearing in Newcastle.

Recorder Henley said no one involved could be identified.

The judge said the woman had become pregnant shortly after meeting the man.

She said the woman was “vulnerable” and said social workers had raised concern about the dangers of “sexual exploitation”.
