Red Cross launches Solidarity Fund to support victims of terror across the UK
The British Red Cross has launched a new UK Solidarity Fund to help victims of terrorism anywhere in Britain.
The UK-wide fund will support people who have been injured, bereaved or traumatised by terror attacks to help reduce immediate suffering and ensure that victims and their families do not face short-term financial difficulties.
The charity is also running the ‘We Love Manchester Emergency Fund’ appeal in partnership with Manchester City Council and Manchester Evening News following the terrorist attack at the Ariana Grande concert that killed 22 people. That fund has raised £1,278,066 so far.
The British Red Cross has organised appeals in the past following the 7/7 bombings and the Westminster attacks but these have been aimed locally.
Following Saturday night’s attack in London, the charity has now established a nationwide fund that will provide urgent support after potential future incidents too.
British Red Cross chief executive Mike Adamson said: “The events in these two great British cities in the last two weeks are shocking and horrifying. Our thoughts are with all of those affected at this terribly difficult time.
“British Red Cross staff and volunteers are on the ground right now in both cities providing practical and emotional support.
“We will do all we can to help the victims and their families, wherever they are and whoever they are, in keeping with the Red Cross principles of humanity, unity and neutrality.”
