Man appears in court charged with murdering wife at Cambridgeshire care home

An 87-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his 86-year-old wife.

Brendon Constant is accused of killing his wife Jean and was formally charged at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, Cambridgeshire Police said.

A post-mortem examination concluded that Mrs Constant died of plastic bag asphyxia in association with heart disease.

Her body was discovered by police who were called to Poppyfields care home in Chapman Way in Eynesbury near St Neots on August 22 2016.

Constant, of Richmond Road, Wisbech, did not enter a plea before magistrates.

He appeared before Cambridge Crown Court hours later and was bailed to return to the court for a plea hearing on May 3.
