Birmingham care home is rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has found the quality of care provided by Victoria Lodge Care Home in Acocks Green, Birmingham, to be Outstanding overall following an inspection in January.
Inspectors found Victoria Lodge, which provides accommodation with personal care for up to 24 older people, staff were caring and compassionate and people were being provided with safe, responsive, caring, effective and well-led care.
Acosia Nyanin, CQC’s Head of Inspection for Adult Social Care in the central region said: “Our inspection team were really impressed by the level of care and support offered at Victoria Lodge Care Home.
“People lived in a home where the ethos was about people believing it was their home and where they were sure their views were valued. There was a strong commitment to developing caring, respectful relationships with people and they were supported by staff who demonstrated compassion and empathy.
“A relative told us that one person had liked the home so much they did not want to leave after they came to the home for a short stay. Another relative described the staff and care at the home as magnificent.
“Relationships with families and friends were cherished and developed so that people were able to maintain and develop their ties with people important to them. Friends and families built relationships with other people living in the home and often continued to visit them after their own family members had passed away.
“Staff were responsive to changes in people’s needs ensuring that their physical, social and emotional needs were met.
“All of this meant people received a high standard of care, which is why it has been rated Outstanding.”
Under CQC’s programme of inspections, all adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Victoria Lodge Care Home was rated Outstanding overall, Outstanding for being caring and well-led and Good for being responsive, effective and safe.
