Research: Scottish Social Services Council study into newly qualified social workers

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) has announced a five-year national study of the experiences of newly qualified social workers (NQSWs) starts this month.

The study will explore how new social workers develop in their early careers and the SSSC are asking all NQSWs who registered in 2016 to fill out an online survey.

The SSSC have commissioned Glasgow Caledonian University to carry out the research and say it will be be the most comprehensive study into NQSWs anywhere in the UK.

As well as an annual online survey the research will also gather evidence from focus groups and in-depth interviews over the next five years. The study aims to establish key performance benchmarks for the social service profession as a whole by looking at the ongoing needs of social workers as they progress through their careers.

The SSSC will contact everyone who registered as a NQSW in 2016 directly to take part in the study. In the meantime, you can find out more about the research in a recent news story on their website.
