SSSC announce consultation to increase workforce registration fees

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) has announced details of a new consultation detailing proposals to increase the fees they charge social service workers to register with them.

This consultation is relevant to all registrants, social service employers, learning providers, people who use services and carers, trade unions and other professional bodies.

SSSC Chief Executive, Anna Fowlie explained: “I know that increasing fees is never going to be a popular option, but I would ask you to bear in mind that our fees have always been considerably less than those of other registered groups and have been the same since we first started registering people in 2003.

“Across Scotland we have a shared commitment amongst the SSSC, the Scottish Government, people working in social services and the public to ensure that the workforce has the right skills, qualifications, values and standards to deliver a high quality service to our most vulnerable citizens. We can only achieve that by making a modest increase to our fees.

“This is a short consultation with three questions I would like you to comment on. There is information that explains the changes we are proposing and why.
