Teen charged with impersonating social worker in attempted baby kidnap

A teenager has been charged with attempted kidnap of a baby after reports of a young woman impersonating a social worker.

The 17-year-old from Evesham in Worcestershire is accused of attempting to take the infant from a home in Normanton, Derby, on Monday, September 21.

Police said a woman claiming to be a social worker knocked at the door of a 19-year-old mother and asked to hold her baby before later handing the child back.

Another 17-year-old girl, from Wolverhampton, has been arrested in connection with the incident and released on bail while the investigation continues, Derbyshire Police said.

Police have asked anyone with information to contact them on 101.
