NSPCC launch new child protection course in Scotland
An online introductory child protection course for anyone who works with children in Scotland has been launched by the NSPCC.
You will gain the skills you need to act appropriately and confidently to protect the children you work with.
Working at your own pace, this introductory online training course will give you a clear understanding of how to recognise, report and record concerns about a child’s welfare and incorporates the Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC) approach in Scotland.
The course is for anyone who works with children or families in their paid or voluntary work, so you don’t need any previous child protection training.
People who have taken this course include:
- early year’s practitioners
- nursery workers
- childminders
- housing officers
- health and safety officers
- fostering groups
- professionals and volunteers from commercial and community based organisations
- people working in children’s leisure and entertainment or religious organisations.
Working at your own pace, you’ll learn how to:
- recognise possible child abuse
- respond appropriately
- report your concerns about a child
- record what you’ve seen.
How the course works
Each section takes about 30-45 minutes to complete, followed by five questions. At the end of each section you’ll be given a full explanation of the correct and incorrect answers.
The course includes:

- reflective tasks
- interactive learning activities and quizzes.
Once you’ve successfully completed this course you can download a personalised certificate of achievement.
